RUN TO WIN
"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain." (1 Corinthians 9:24)
Hardly any human being would plan to lose before going to the field to run a race. Everyone who goes to run does so with the belief that he or she would win.
In the above scripture, Paul said in other words, ‘run therefore that you may win the price’. In verse 1 Corinthians 9:26, Paul said he runs with confidence.
In Hebrews 12:1, the Bible says, "…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."
To be able to run in a race and win the prize, you must:
- Lay every weight aside and
- Lay that sin aside
If you go to run on the field, you will be disqualified if you go against the race rules. If you are disqualified, you can’t run in that race again. You have to wait for another race and go back to reenroll. Being disqualified doesn’t mean you can’t run again, but you have to start afresh.
In Galatians 5: 7, Paul said, "Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?" In Galatians 3:1, he said, "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth…"
You sit under the teaching of the Word of God continually yet you do not obey the truth? If you do not want to be disqualified from getting the prize, you must lay aside that particular sin and weight that weighs you down spiritually. There are many church people who have never gone beyond taking one step in the race of life because every time, they get disqualified and they start again.
Father, forgive me for the weight and sin that I have been allowing to weigh me down, in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, I throw down the load of Satan that has been stopping me from doing well in the race of life. I take into me, the spirit of patience. In the name of Jesus, I break the power and authority that sin has been having over me.
